Westfield SEight

Post by Speed 8 »

Hi guys,

I've registered on the forum a couple of months ago. Only reading until know.

Some pics of my pride and joy a '98 Westfield SEight; (For more info click here.)

Getting her registered in The Netherlands (Yep I'm Dutch);

The reason to start posting is that I'm investigating the possibilities of upgrading the power plant. She currently has a 3.9EFI which apart from the K&N Air filter and a Mark Adams fuel map is bog standard.

Piccie of the current installation;

To be honest I'm a little past the initial investigation as I've bought the 5.0 bottom end of Mr. "V8 Jago". Though the project has many uncertainties I'm really looking forward to building the new engine. The aim for the new engine is between the 300 and 330 bhp mark.

For now the spec of my new build is looking like this;
- 5.0 balanced bottom end (Wildcat build) *
- Merlin F85 heads
- ACT Carbon fibre Intake* (on 45mm trumpets *, ~72mm throttle body and ported manifold)
- Up rated injectors?
- Tubular exhaust manifold, custom made.
- Baffled Sump. *
- Lightened TVR fly wheel. *
- MegaSquirt Ecu using Edis8.
- Cam???

Of course the above list is subject to change. Especially the choice of cam is really puzzling me. I want to keep the new engine running on Efi which if I understand correctly limits the choice in cams. At the moment I have the following cams on my list, don't know if they are suited for my Efi setup though. More research to be done here. :wink:
- Piper 285 (duration 276/276, Lift .440/.440, timing 31-65 65-31, full lift 107)
- Kent H214 (duration 284/298, Lift .469/.490, timing 31-73 78-40, full lift 111)
- Real Steel Tornado (duration ?/?, Lift .508/.512, timing ? ?, full lift 110)
- Crower 50232 (duration 276/281, Lift .488/.490, timing ? ?, full lift 112)
- V8 Developments H404 (specs unknown, but advised for TVR 500).

Anyway, looking forward to my new build and your comments/suggestions on it.

Regards,
Speed 8.

Eppo,
It was good to meet you and put a face to your name. Hope you and your mate got home ok and found hull easily going the way i sent you. Nice scenery and winding roads.
Im looking forward to seeing your westy going with that lump in :?
Its going to be insane :shock: But will be very intresting to see it going. You will need balls of steel as its about 350lbs lighter than my jeep and i managed 3.5s to 60mph without nitrous. Just the engine alone and 11.5 1/4 mile and it needed setting up on a dyno. Mine was auto your is manual aswell :shock: :shock: :D
All the best on your build, Adam.

Hi Adam,

Sorry for the late reply, again the office is just a madhouse at the moment. Once again many thanks for the warm welcome. Very nice to have finally met you. That is one unique Jago you have there. :shock:

We indeed took your advised route back to hull. Your country sure has some amazing scenery to offer. The roads were brilliant as well. We did take it fairly easy though with the engine in the back. 8-)

As promised I'll keep you posted on my build. I hope to install the new engine next winter. I'll probably open a build thread on here as numerous questions will arise. :oops:

Build status at the moment;
*parts arrived:
- 5.0 balanced bottom end
- TVR light (9kgs) flywheel + ARP blots.
- Cloyes True Roller timing chain set.
- ACT carbon fibre intake (Single Throttle body, Westfield style)
- 45mm Trumpet base
- Mulfab custom baffled sumps. (look the business 8-)

*parts ordered:
- Merlin F85 heads (expected around april '09 :roll:)

*parts ready to order:
- Head gasket set (Composite from JE)
- Roller Rockers (from Down Under).

*main areas undecided:
- Cam set (will probably give Ray Web of v8 dev a call tomorrow their H404 comes highly recommended of a friend/Tvr owner)
- Ecu (MegaSquirt, Vems, Omex or rechip the std. Hotwire. For the last option I need to give John Eales a call. He came highly recommended from Peter Mulberry.)

Cheers.
