MGB Rover V8

Post by tetlow »

I have tried to have my MGB as up to date as possible and still looking original.
I have Power Steering, Power Windows, Spax front and rear, LSD, MGC Wires, Heated Seats, Walnut dash, Modern CD Radio, Remote Central Locking / Alarm, Mohair insulated Hood, Twin SS Ceramic coated Tubular Exhaust, Weber 500 carb with Dual Plane manifold, 2 Pack Paint (Tartan Red), SS Fuel Tank. :D

Engine pic

Thanks
Would you have any recommendations on how I keep the engine bay paint clean? I painted it myself  and it is not as smooth as it looks.
Is there some type of special polish / spray to help?
Regards
Dave

Dave
I see you have joined the MGB V8 air filter club!!
We are a small group with those ally covers mate. I think Ian only ever made about a dozen didnt he ??
Very tidy car mate. I'm only down the road in Buckingham, but mines not a shiny MGB. It's a sort of rolling R&D vehicle.
You should bring that beast up to the Pod in the new year to meet up with me, Tony and the other V8 nutters.
It's a blast, you will enjoy it.

Thanks for the offer. I hope to see you all there if I am not working. I unfortunately often work at the weekends though.
You might remember my place in Wolverton, as you collected an altenator you bought from me on EBay some time ago. I was away.

Oh Hello mate.
That car is looking fine Dave. You should try at least to get it to the Retro day at the Pod.
See you in 2007.

Hi JC
I am very happy with mine. :D
I have added a small mod though.
I had 4mm deep slot machined underneath, the width of the filter.
It locates the filter better and gives me a bit extra clearance.

Dave

Im jealous

My engine bay and engine is now covered in s**** and oil. Might get some shiny edelbrock elite rocker covers and adaptor plates off ebay. As for cleaning, i take mine to a pressure washer, cover up the air filter and dizzy with placcy bays and sparay it down but i dont go to the trouble of polishing everything tho. I'd like one of those filter aswell. Never seen one before

Looks like you repainted yours? Mine came with the crackle finish black paint as used on the dashboards. I think id prefer to take the paint off and go for the flat glossy black that you appier to have achieved.

The guy was also selling rocker covers. SD1 type with the MG badge cast into them. I didnt go for the rockers being an impoverished student. Wish I hd now even though they were a bit on the chunky side.

Hi JC
I did not buy the rocker covers either because I prefer to not to have a breather hole at the end of each rocker, and I agree they are a bit chunky. I like the smoother ROVER covers.
I sprayed my cover with laquer to make it stay clean and all the paint bubbled.
I had to completely strip it and repainted with Hammerite primer and Smooth Black Spray.
I am very happy with the outcome.
Regards
Dave
