Top hats tend to be larger OD liners than normal 3.9 and that might leave the 3.5 block a bit weak. No idea for sure if it would cause a problem but worth looking into just in case.

Gav the 3.5 block with dropped liners was a standard block fitted with 3.9 liners then put in the MG, and a combination of a fuelling problem and Mr L's heavy right foot resulted in the liners dropping for some reason.

I've been offered a good deal on tophat liners so I'm 99% certain I'll get that done. The forged pistons would need to be standard 3.9 sized.

So, all I need then is some 3.9 EFI rods, blueprinted with ARP bolts and some forged pistons. Oh and some new ARP head studs.

Any problem with using the standard 3.5 rods instead? I have two sets at the moment.

. . . but I keep looking at the BoostPerformance website and thinking of 5litre turbo'd monsters . . . ! Not practical my entire drivechain would melt first!

All efi 3.5 and 3.9 rods are the same so you're safe there.

There might be small differences in shape but they're still strong enough and will still fit the 3.9.
