Hi All,

Just to kick it all in the air.

I have been offerd a 4.0l out of a landrover p36 and its a 60.000 mile job

He is asking about £300 for it

What do you think? good buy or not?

Would this be a stronger engine than the old landy 101 that i have at the moment?

also buy being a 4.0l will the p6 timing case and front pulley still fit it?

Cheers

Change of engine plan ?

Post by stagcar »

Hi,

I am thinking of getting a 3.9 engine and rebuilding it for use with the blower

Would it be a better engine for supercharging with the wade blower?

Is the engine going to be stronger than the old 101FC engine? or should i cary on with the 101 rebuild?

Thanks again

Derek

Hi
The 101 engine is based on the P6 block and heads, the later 3.9 is stroger and has better oil seals and an extra 400cc which is always a good thing you would want a set of later non P6 heads anyway.

i have got a set of 3.9 heads that i am rebuilding at the moment so i will bolt these on when i get the engine also fit the new blower cam

I will make my manta go :)

No substitute for cc's even with a blower as well!

3.9 is a good engine, go for it. As you're only running low boost it should happily handle it.

Thanks guys

I have now got the 3.9 an will start to get it built up with the heads and bits

I am wanting to run around 6-8 psi when done so no looking for big boost

I have kind of worked out with a 20 % reduction I should never hit the max blower speed of 5500 rpm

Thanks

Hi mate yes it's still work innprogress. I had it all up and running but the engine was rather dead so I am building a 3.9 to drop in the hole.

Big problem is time as but the good news is I have moved to a house with a big garage so work can once again be done :) the manta got through it's mot tho so not all bad :)

Will keep you posted mate

Cheers
