Piston Choice for supercharging.

Post by ppyvabw »

As the title says...

I don't want to run a really high boost as I cannot afford forged pistons.

I'd say im probably aiming for 7/7.5 psi which is beyond what I'd like to subject OE cast pistons to.

What other options are there, i.e cast pistons in different alloys, die cast pistons etc etc?

That pressure is usually fine for cast pistons. If your's are slotted skirts don't go over that amount though.

Thanks for your reply.

Have had conflicting opinions on this though. I contacted v8 developments about it and they said not to use cast pistons at all. (Although I expect he's biased because he wants to sell me some nice expensive forged ones )

Lots of people use low boost on cast pistons. Even the original janspeed turbo kits used standard engines :)

I'm planning on using std pistons on my 4.0, i would love forged pistons and increase the boost but TBH I dont think I need it! A standard 4.0 pulls a westfield to 60mph in under 4 seconds and my mazda is 'only' about 400kg heavier, but obviously has a blower and nos

So my good side keeps telling me- dont bother with uprating more than is practical!
