The Skyline is coming along nicely now, so it's about time I thought about the engine. I've bought a 1991 LS400 with the 4.0 1UZFE engine.
I plan to use the stock ECU, engine, ignition, everything etc for the time being due to costs. I want this one running asap!
I could just bolt the engine in as is and have a nice 260bhp.
I've bought a decent fuel system (fuel cell, twin pumps/filters, swirl pot, Aeromotive FPR, AN6 throughout) so that will take pretty much whatever I need for the time being ... but it's enough to support a few more ponies.
The factory ECUs will support 6-7psi of boost without modification, it's been done loads of times. So, I have two options, supercharge or single turbo.
Supercharger would be an M112 from a Jag or Rangey, including the chargecoolers. This will required a modified inlet plenum to take the chargecooler runners, not a massive job really but something I can't do myself. Might require a modified pulley, but probably not.
Turbo would be a holset HX35/40 or equivalent, and I was thinking a 50-60mm external wastegate. I can turn the exhausts manifolds round, and knock up a turbo manifold similar in design to a TVR V8 in front of the engine. I already have an intercooler that will work.
So, what do you guys think would work best? I'm not sure how the turbo/wastegate will work at such low boosts ..?

can I suggest getting it up and running normally aspirated, debug the car and get it reliable then add a supercharger once you are happy it is sorted.

I've practically bought everything I need for the car now bar gearbox conversion, front calipers and some wiring bits, so will have some funds spare shortly.
I'm edging towards a turbo. Tial wastegates are decent and can come with a 6psi spring. Holset hx35s are a couple of hundred quid.

Id say Turbo. Go for an eBay GT35 or GT45. According to the turbo forums these Chinese chargers are deffo worth the money and costs grabs. Theres lots of testing experience over there on the turbo forums.

Just some piping and welding a flange that holts the turbo and welding a flange for the wastegate........psssht psssht there you go.
7psi created by a turbo has more bhp than 7psi created by a supercharger.

I've been looking at wiring/ecu this weekend, for the whole car. Looks like it will be far easier to just megasquirt it from scratch anyway, by the time I've sorted the factory ecu and wiring, I could have paid for 60% of a MS3x kit.
And I had a look at the lexus dash, bloody nightmare, so just gonna go for a nice little digital dash to simplify things. It's going to be far too complicated and stressful trying to get the lexus stuff working.

I've decided on a Holset turbo, probably a HX40 to HX55 depending on exhaust turbine. External wastegate, and that's it. Maybe try an Apexi SAFC to help with fuellign on the factory ECU. But all that is for later next year at the earliest!
