I think you just need to fix the oil leaks, rather than looking for a fictional problem you think is causing it.

As from your description, it sounds like a pretty horrific oil leak.

I certainly never had any such issues with any RV8 I ever owned, at least not until one melted a piston and spewed oil out everywhere. But that's not quite the same thing.
I'm all for adequate breathing, but an oil leak is still an oil leak no matter how many breathers you have. Unless you are actually blowing boost into the crankcase somehow lol

But back to simple check valves

Not the cheapest seller, but you get the idea. Just searh.

You may be right and I was just unlucky when I tried to fix the last leak, it's not a horrendous leak just enough for a drip or two to find its way to the exhaust, and I may be chasing my tail After the leak at the front of the valley went after fitting the second breather. I had one of those non return valves, I blew it to bits

Weird. I use one of them on my car for the servo line so I dont blow boost into the servo. Ive been using it for years.

Just another thought. Are you sure the leak you have is just from the rear valley gasket seal. Its quite common for a tiny oil weep to form at the rear of each rocker cover right in the corner above the exhaust?

I had the same problem way back. Give it some beans and then stop at the lights. All of a sudden POOF!! oils moke seeping out of the bonnet edges !!! And it looked 10 times worse at night as the head lights showed up the smoke cloud :)

I sat and stared at the bugger for ages one day until I noticed a stain on the rear exhaust primary pipe on number 7 ??

After that I went back to cork rocker gaskets and a bit of sealant ;)

Just a thought.

Definately worth checking I do have the rubber gaskets and they are not the best.

stevieturbo wrote:Or some of the old yanks setups would try and use exhaust gasses to carry out some form of extraction. Again this would still need good oil/air separation so raw oil doesnt simply get spewed out the exhaust.
This is detailed in "Forced Induction Performance Tuning" by A. Graham Bell

You connect the crankcase breather to the exhaust at such an angle that the flow creates a vacuum in the breather. The exhaust never reverses up the breather as it is flowing too quickly. It has diagrams and info on angles etc

I highly recommend that book.

I think you are referring to crankcase evacuation systems :D a favourite for drag racers and their V8's naturally aspirated boosted or whatever 8-) see here http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/race/6.html
