if you are refering to an afm as an air flow meter, the flapper already has one,
BUT if you are using a megasquirt or vems then you will ditch the afm as it is not needed as the ecu runs on vacuum input, throttle position (tps) input, air temp input, and coolant temp input.

Bit confused too as to what you mean. If you mean can the MS work with an AFM then yes it can but not on the standard code, you will have to use the extra code for that.

Oh dear, i'm even more confused myself ! i thought the early type were flapper and the later type hotwire, with an afm ? seeing as i have a flapper manifold but no flapper afm ? i was going to buy a hotwire afm? and use that with an megasquirt? does that make more sense now? lol, john

you dont need to buy anything then, all you need to do is plumb the MS map sensor into the plenum and your good to go. The MAP sensor as Tony said replaces the AFM which is the flapper or hotwire part, the bit that sits in the intake hose.
