Carb versus injection

Post by JSF55 »

I notice a lot of people who buy range rover engines convert them back too carb and manifold and scrap the injection set up, just see whats available on ebay, so whats the pluses for running a simple carb and manifold set up ?

So thats where it went !

I think you've said it there already; simplicity. No ECU, injectors, sensors, wiring, TPS to go wrong etc, but you will need to set the carb up properly.

Also I think people are a bit scared of it all, knowing that if it conks out, then it can be a major nuisance to sort out.

Of course even the newest kit is now 20 years old as well!

Buy a Chris LPG system!

Actually not for sale (YET) Really basic and seems to be doing away with all the electronic crud.

the lucas ECUs when old are nasty. However there are enough people have converted to one of the open source ECU designs such that there are maps and guides readily available, so the only excuse not to go that way is if you really love carbs or have a total aversion to wiring.

But is there any power gains to be had with a good set up carb and manifold over say a aftermarket ecu on a stock rover injection system ?

Nope. Other way round. Well tuned EFI will make more power and handle wilder cams, higher compression etc etc.
