My car has developed an alarming smell of petrol. I assume (I will obviously check) that it's to do with the couple of tanks of E10 I ran through it not getting on with the 20+ year old rubber hose in the transmission tunnel. Would it be a mad/bad idea to run a couple of lengths of 8mm copper pipe through there for feed and return?

Why not just replace the rubber hose with more modern hose with a rating that can handle E10?

I would doubt two tanks of fuel would pose a problem to any hose in good condition.
The less joins on any run of pipe the better. But plenty of people have used copper pipe as fuel line without any real problems.
