Misfire

Post by southernd »

Hi guys. I have a Rover V8 fitted to an MX5. It is a 3.5 rebuilt to match a Vitesse and uses a 500cfm Edelbrock Carb.

I have a misfire even at idle. The idle tends to splutter every 2 seconds. When the car is driven it feels like it is holding back and as soon as you life misfires(in a way racing cars do). I found the alternator to be undercharging which I have replaced. I've also replaced leads and spark plugs.

The think I have noticed is the fuel filter only fills to around 1/3rd. Is this normal? Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

David

If it's a rhythmic misfire every two seconds it tends to suggest ignition. Rotor and dissy cap would be next on my list.
