4.0 TO 4.6 IN DISCOVERY 2 WITH MOTRONICS M5.2.1
After meeting up with everyone on the 23rd for the rolling road day. I was left feeling very cheesed off. A 4.6 with cam produced 4hp more than a standard 4.0 and 34Nm less aswell
Run smoothly and pulled well but left wondering where the hell the power had gone.
Answer: It is there, just the motronics still thinks its a 4.0 and is trying its hardest to produce 4.0 power.
Have read everything, everywhere as a little stubborn to ask and low and behold it was under my noise all the time.
In the work shop manual is the following found it when look up how to adjust the throttle linkage .
The V8 engine is equipped with the Bosch Motronic M5.2.1 engine management system. This system is a sequential
multiport fuel injection system controlled by an Engine Control Module
A single ECM is used for the control of the existing 4.0 litre engine and the new 4.6 litre engine introduced with 03
model year vehicles for the NAS market only. The ECM contains the tunes for both engines variants. When the ECM
is replaced, TestBook/T4 must be used to select the correct tune to match the engine fitment.
.
Well off to the dealership tomorrow and will post results.
Hope this helps others who are think of doing the change.

Hi James, is there anyway you can reword your statement about not taking the guides out when we did your heads please? i may be wrong but it was a private deal between you and suan done on a budget for you and nothing to do with v8 developments, i personally believe the heads that we produce are the best on the market and messages like this allways make prospective customers think twice thanks Robtopsparks wrote:My friend works for Autologic and has the leads for our car, where abouts are you? he's near me in Iver Heath.Have a Piper 270 cam and V8Developments did the heads, got the chap whos doing my engine to rework them as they did't take the guides out before they ported them. He's done a great job(Paul @Classic and Modern engines in Bracknel).

I know where it is Kevin, its a pig to get to I bought a rolled Disco 2 for spares and removed it so I have 2 bites of the cherry! .Got to see if I can get it to run without cats as I run on LPG (Cat not needed for MOT) and the OEM manifolds run 2 pairs of lamda's,I have a nice pair of headers I can fit if I weld a pair of bosses on them for the lamdas. The car I stripped was a V reg and only had 1 pair.
No news yet james.
Running a Zavoli multipoint LPG system on mine and have 2 pairs of Lamda sensors as well.
Regarding the cats, you only need to keep the fronts as the rears can be switch off by changing the country setting using a nanocom. But Im sure Mike with his box of tricks can do this.
Are you keeping the banana bunch inlet manifold?
If so have been informed the casting is poo and a clean up does wonders for flow.
