The ZF4HP22 4 speed auto was fitted to the Sherpa in V8 RWD configuration. It was also fitted to the Range Rover in V8 4WD, and countless Beemers, Volvos in RWD. One can mix & match to get what you need.

On the subject of Rover gearboxes. In case anyone hasn't seen it, here http://www.vintagemodelairplane.com/pag ... box01.html is an excellent article on how to improve the LT77 after flushing and refilling with Moble 1 0w 40.

The snag with the ZF/RV8 installation is it is spaced off the engine a long way to fit the RR installation. Which makes it all rather large for use on smaller vehicles.

One of my winter projects is to attempt to fit a 5 speed ZF to the RV8. It's one of the few boxes you can get aftermarket ECUs for. IMHO, 5 speeds are the minimum to get near manual performance from an auto. It's also a pretty reliable box so cheap second-hand. There's probably a GM 5 speed that might be even easier to fit - the GM on the SD1 has a removable bellhousing unlike the ZF - but they're not common in the UK.

Presume you mean the 5speed ZF?, as the bellhousing is removeable on the 4speed ZF (4HP22/4HP24)

I'm not sure about the Molyslip thing, though. I tried it in a BMC B Series box many years ago and it stopped the synchro working properly.
