Removing the carbon ring in the top of the bore

Post by mrcheese »

This is what I need to do when removing the pistons from a Rover V8.

I can see what needs to be removed, but what should I use to do the job?

Paul.

Scotchbrite, light emery, carb cleaner, not bother as the rings will do it, axe, spoon, shotgun, humor, harsh language. . . . . .

No really the carbon build up isn't really that tough, it should come off with a scrape. I used some scotchbrite soaked with something like thinners or for more extreme cases a rotary wire brush on a drill will get really stubborn bits off.
V8'less but a fountain of dorky knowledge ref v8's!

Scotchbrite and carb cleaner did the job nicely. It aslo takes off all the crud from the tops of the pistons.

Thanks,

Paul.
