Large main caps on early interim RV8?

Post by Gasket »

Hi folks. We have a January 1994 Range Rover Classic with an early interim 3.9 block (bosses to enable crossbolting but the smaller, non-full-width caps).

This is being worked on in parallel to my cross bolted 3.5 build and my ‘93 RRC build so I am becoming very friendly with the machine shops. I’m a bit obsessive about bringing these engines up to the final stage of development (38A) wherever possible.

This engine is original to the car, which is undergoing an extensive original restoration - so I don’t want to switch to a later block and lose the engine number.

Can anyone tell me if the castings of the early interim blocks are the same as (or can be have enough material to be machined the same as) a later interim block and if so, could I have a set of main bearing caps from a later interim block fitted prior to crossbolting and line boring?

Thank you.
