Engine cleaning

Post by durhamsmudger »

Hi
I recently bought a 4.6 from a scrapper ,I wasn’t really bothered about the wear and tear as I bought it as a project to be fully refurbished - what I wasn’t prepared for was, the black sludge - absolutely minging .

The issue I have is I’m not allowed to use paraffin, diesel petrol or any other flammable substance for cleaning in the premises where the strip down / rebuild will take place so I’m looking for some help in finding a very effective degreaser in the uk .
Thanks

Holy poop this stuff has got dear.

But this, or stuff like it, water soluble de-greaser is the sort of stuff I've used before and works well. Local motor factors are bound to sell it, or stuff like it.
No idea if it meets your criteria or not.

Or....take stuff down to the local power wash at the garage and give it a good whack there first

or take it to a local machine shop and see if they have a proper cleaning tank, and just pay them. It should get the worst off.

Fleetwash (traffic film remover). Work it in neat with a stiff brush then was off with a 50/50 mix of fleetwash and boiling water.
