3.9 EFI not reving intermitently

I'm running a 3.9 EFI and when cold revs 6000, when warm revs 5000 and occasionally does not respond to throttle opening over 3000 revs. After switching off for about 10 seconds it starts fine and revs 6000. Any help please?
