The only hassle with the rope method is that you can't use your standard spring compressor with that method. You will need a spring compressor that attaches to the head somehow, but otherwise it's a perfectly feasible method.
You need a way to stop the engine running back and releasing the pressure on the rope, but a power bar and socket tied off to a hard point on the chassis will do fine.
