4.6 Thor V8, is it the same as a GEMS?

Post by Dixie6789 »

Hi all.

Apart from the ECU and other bits and bobs, is the block/heads etc the same as a GEMS motor?

Going to buy one for my cobra, just want to be sure.

Thanks.

The heads are the same, although there are only subtle differences between the blocks. The pistons are slightly different in terms of the compression ratio.

Block is slightly different where the crank sensor fits in. You have to use the correct mounting "plug" for the correct system, it is on a pin for location then tack-welded in place for security. Pops out easy enough but must have the two tig-weld tacks to secure it. One system needs the other block relieving slightly for clearance where the sensor sits, but I can't remember what way round, it's been a long time since I did this!
