p6 3.5 rear rope seal early type 10.5

well this has been leaking for a long time now and somthing keeps popping up what is the best way doing this and the easy way been told it's a night mare to do. the bottom seal i dont think it should be a problem as that part comes off its the top part which is going to be the pain all i can think is would have to drop the crank down a bit so i can take old 1 off and put new 1 on and were and when do i cut it down to size as well pr any other ideas as i dont really want to take the crank off thanks
