ok ive been on all day now with it and still no further on ive had the sump off, put a new oil pipe gasket on, even took the rockers off and blew an airline down the oil holes, i could hear the oil bubbling in the sump and it was turning the pump. here is a daft idea ive used a 4.6 timing cover gasket and there was one place where the gasket was straight and it looked like it should of circled something.

if i prime the pump with the rockers off it will bring the oil up but it spits it out rather than flow out

I was told by rob at v8dev's that all the gaskets are the same.

How old are the pump gears and housing?

How about a leak where the oil pump attaches to the block / cover on to the pump?

Or somthing simple like your prime tool being the wrong one for the distributor type.

Did you put a new gasket on the oil pick up where it mounts to the block?I take it you are running a stock sump and its not dented so to restricting the oil pick up?Does sound like you are drawing air in rather than pumping oil so guess problem lies before pump or you would be pushing oil out??

yes i fitted a new gasket, i also thought the sump looked dented a little so i cut cut three chunks out of the sides of the gauze carrier part of the pick up pipe, im also thinking maybe its sucking air somewhere

do you have a remote filter ? anything like that ?

I remember that on occasion, mine used to take forever to build oil pressure after an oil change.
I sometimes even had to resort to vaseline/priming manually.

Standard big gear setup, remote filter houisngg and cooler via a sandwich plate. and uprated spring for the relief.

I also tried the booster plate onto the base of the pump.

I never did figure out why this was happening. Once it had pressure, it was fine until I did another oil/filter change.

Hoewever, when I eventually fitted the Mocal oil pump cover, the problem was cured.

Visually, there was no obvious reasons for there to be a problem, yet there always was.
