Help> RV8 Main Bearing Cap Rear Cruciform Seal !!

Post by Slatter »

Hi people ive taken my engine apart for a mild rebuild ( well someone helped) !! Now in the rear cap we took out the seal and it is in the shape of a + almost or more a cross, with my rebuild kit from mr eales i got a rubber seal BUT its straight with 2 5mm stubbs coming out either side.... would these be new style seals that i am needing???

Any help or advice would be appreciated

Thanks Slatter

Hi ,
These are the latest type of rear cruxiform seal from Landrover, and a lot easier to fit than the earlier ones.
They're fine.

Hi,
That's the ones, and they will only fit sensibly the one way.
They've just got a shorter crossbar than the earlier type.

Also need a smear of blue hylomar to complete the rear brg cam seal to complete assy

I received these seals when I rebuilt my 3.9V8 and they are easier to install that the X type seals  used both earlier typewas a little more taxing

Put sealant around the side and underside of the cap where it mates to the block. This will stop oil leaking out. I think you should also trim off the portion of the cruciform seal which remains proud but still leave a couple of millimeteres projecting?
