Loose plug on right bank injector loom!!

Post by Jono FD3 »

Hi guys.... this is my first post (of many I have a feeling!!)

I've just bought a Mk2 hilux that has had a 3.9 V8 conversion (bought it as a non runner) basicaly I am going to be transfering all the good bits: engine wheels & body lift on to my good Mk3....... anyway back to the point of the post!! I haven't had a good look at it or even put a charged batery on it yet, but I've found a loose wire on the right hand bank injector loom..... can you take a look at it and tell me where it's suposed to plug in, or even if it's suposed to be plugged in!!!

Cheers
Jono

i may be wrong, but it looks like the plug to the extra air valve, that ally block to the right of the plu that has a pipe going to it from the intake, then the other end goes towards the plenum

Jono, No it wont run properly with the connector off as the heater coil cannot operate.

You can see an image of the EAV with its HIDDEN connector here

Cold running will be bad without it connected.

The easiest way to put it on is to remove the EAV, connect the wire and screw it on. It's only held on with two bolts and obviously the two pipes.

Chris, I think its the other way around.

With the EAV in situ, if the wiring is not connected then the EAV aperture cannot fully close then the hot running idle speed will be too high.

One slight issue guys - if it is indeed a 3.9, it won't run right with this system unless it's been modded as it's a 3.5 efi system!
To make a 3.9 run ok with a flapper system, after the extra-air-valve issue is resolved obviously, it needs the fuel pressure regulator changing for an adjustable version and the pressure upping from 36 to 42psi, then the airflow meter needs to be re-calibrated as well.
To re-calibrate the airflow meter, prise off the black cover, warm up engine, adjust mixture screw to roughly 3/4 turn out from fully in then adjust spring tension on toothed wheel until CO reads roughly 2%. Fine trimming can then be done as normal on the mixture screw. Without these mods, it will run severely lean under power and eventually do serious damage to the pistons.

Engine No is next to where the dipstick comes out the block.
