I am just finishing putting a stag back on the road after lying in a barn for 10 years. I am putting in 2 new sets of points but neither the Haynes or Stag Repair Operations Manual tells you how to setup both sets of points....
There are various discussions on using dwell meters (dont know anything about them) but surely there is an easy wasy to do it..such as once first set has opened and distributor has turned x degrees then 2nd set should be fully open????

I had a look in my books, as far as I can see its easy as turn the engine until on set of points is full open and then set the gap, then turn the engine agan until next set is open and then set gap.
Can be done with a dwell meter but easiest is doig it manually.

Chris...thanks but thats what has me stuck. The 2nd set of points didnt open at all (not sure why..maybe not tightened down). So not sure when they should open.
I thought maybe 180 degrees after the other set but none of my manuals mention it and dwell meters are a black art to me....hardly know how to spell them never mind what they are!!

When looking at the distributor one set of points should open at a time.
If one is not opening I would imagine it needing adjusted.
After checking the first set of points you have to turn the engine until the next set off points is on the cam
Yup thats a Spitfire in my signature, standing on its tail end. Keep telling al the local kids I'm building a space rocket.
Its in mid restoration but I'm squeezing a Rover V8 into it and putting a Lenhem front end on.
I have always been a triumph person had numerous cars but always come back to triumphs.
