Lucas Coil Upgrade

Post by tetlow »

I have a Lucas DLB120 coil with a Ballast Resistor on my Mallory Twin points.
I am modding the Mallory with an electronic upgrade.
Should I fit a sports coil like the DLB110?
I believe I need the Ballast resistor but I don't know why?
Regards
Dave

That coil is listed as still being a points coil and the blurb saying it allows you to open the plug gaps. It will probably work for you but I think there are better choices now your going over to electronic ignition.

if you have gone with a pertronix ignitor then its compatable with a points style coil

Cheers. That is what I have done.
Should I keep the DLB 120 as this is a uprated coil or go with a DLB110 a sports coil?

your probably ok with what you have got,i think it tells you in the ignitor instructions the correct coil rating to use, this is the critical figure,i think it states a max figure of 1.5 ohms but am not sure
