0.49A with everything off is very bad - the battery will go flat in a couple of days.....

The alternator should always be connected to the battery, there's never a switch in the live side.

The charge light should of course be switched by the ignition.

Chris.

After some further checking its actually a .36a drain.

It was there when i was using an sd1 front cover and my original ye olde lucas alternator which was when it itb's but this time i have the serp alternator. When i disconnect the alternator the buzzing noise and the drain goes.

I tried removing all fuses and relay from the car, disconnecting anything efi related to isolate the cars original loom from the new wiring for my megasquirt set up so thats ruled out and the drain is still there!

I'm gonna burn it soon. . . . . . . Thats if it doesn't do it it self!

Its completely in the capris origanl loom. I've disconnected EVERYTHING i've ever added onto it as well as every fuse and relay there is and its still there!

You could get a spare battery, connect -ve to the chassis, and +ve to the +ve terminal on the alternator. Disconnect the rest of the loom from the alternator though, so you've just got battery connected to alternator (-ve via chassis).

Then measure current going from battery to alternator.
