Steering module/relay
Hi guy's,
Just testing all the wiring before my first start up, and have found a faulty Steering module/relay anybody know where I can get a replacement?

It is basically just three diodes and a resistor. You can open it up easily. Most DVMs have a diode test function. Probe each diode - black to the banded end - and you should get a reading of about 0.3v If there is a faulty one, replace with a 2N4001.
If t has been plugged into the wrong socket at some time, it's possible a track on the PCB has been damaged. Repair with fusewire, etc.

Hi Dave,
thanks for getting back to me. I've stripped open the unit, looks like one of the I think resisters? has disintegrated! I've done a temp fix (dropped a solder joint across) just so i can continue with the testing.
I've done a google search for 2N4001 and its totally different.
I've hopefully attached some photos.

What do you think?

There are only two types of components in it. Three diodes and one resistor.
Sorry - I made a typo. It's a 1N4001 I've used as a replacement - a very common type. But pretty well any diode will be OK.
The reason for the diodes is to only allow current to flow in one direction. Bypassing one or more will likely cause something odd to happen.
You've certainly got a diode burnt out in your pic. The PCB is marked with the (+) side. The band on the diode indicates the (-) side. So the end without the band goes to (+)

Hopefully you mean the 1N4001 diodes? Modern ones can be smaller than the originals. They are a generic component from different makers. Only use one to replace one.paulsv8manta wrote:Hi Dave, the resisters arrived and they are half the size of the original one. Do you think one is enough or should I put two side by side?
Think aspirin tablets. They can be a different shape for the same amount of aspirin.
