Which end of the kickdown cable? the 'box end or the engine end?

I think Mr. Haynes tells you how to set up the engine end.

Although I have normally done it by trial and error - just moved it until it felt about right to drive....

Well it had it's first run out today and it felt like it only had 2 gears !!!! after a bit of research, i foundthe looser i made it the lower rpm it shifted at, mind u 4000rpm shifts were pretty hairy !! i was wondering if it's still intact how close the crimped on ferrule comes to the end of the adjuster when the throttle is closed? ost of the borg warners stipulate this as an adjustment figure? john

The crimped ferrule is loose on mine! So I just adjusted it until satisfactory performance.

I finally found something on the web, it supposed to be 0.25- 1.25mm between the ferrule and the adjuster, i went out with mine about an inch out and only had 2 gears and stunning performance, i need to alter the bracket to get it closer, i'm still about 10mm out and it gives a hell of a kick as it shifts up !! thanks for ur help, john

I think that's the trick, you want it to upshift whilst still under power. If it shifts up as you start to cruise / overrun it's very harsh on the transmission!!!
