Jag IRS info?
Can anyone give me a link to build info showing the fitting of a Jag IRS to a non jag car, thanks
Re: Jag IRS info?
More information needed - which Jag model IRS are you talking about? 60s, 70s into 80s were a self contained unit in a cage while earlier and later were similar units fitted to other vehicles for the time. Some have inboard disk brakes some have outboard brakes.
Re: Jag IRS info?
Its a XJS item into a mgb, the discs are inboard & I wont be using the jag cage. thanks
Re: Jag IRS info?
I'd say it's a very heavy unit to use as a basis - if you're not fitting it complete with subframe?

Re: Jag IRS info?
I need an axle that will take 400bhp, I have a scimtar axle & as going to use the LSD out of the jag diff for that. But looking at whats required thought I might as well use the jag IRS complete....you think thats a bad idea? ( still looking for some build threads)
Re: Jag IRS info?
Beauty of the early jag unit is the entire back end is on a subframe, so easy to adapt for another vehicle. If you're not going down that route plenty BMW etc units in the scrap yards that would handle the torque?

Re: Jag IRS info?
Ill be fabbing up a subframe, the jag item is ugly & too large.

Re: Jag IRS info?
Just go for a modern BMW unit, there are so many to choose from.
Unless someone is offering some sort of kit for something else.

Re: Jag IRS info?
Ive the ratio I want & its a slipper, why would I spend out on a BMW one?
Re: Jag IRS info?
XJS rear end will be too wide for an MGB. You would nned an early e-type but that would be very expensive.

Re: Jag IRS info?
Could you do something like Perry? I believe he fitted an 8 inch diff into the original housing? It holds up to the Chevy mill he now has fitted and some extreme launches, one of which lifted the front about 3 foot!
His story is on here somewhere but I could not find it using the search function.

Re: Jag IRS info?
Im going to cut down the drive shafts & lower arms, Im aware that they need to be done correctly, some one died at the drags from a snapped drive shaft.
This is for a road car, so IRS would be better than a live axle.
I was hopeing to see some build pics showing how the jag IRS fitted under a MGB.

I used to know Nick with his Green MGF and he fitted a Jag independent rear axle:
