10.5 Clutch And R380 Bellhousing?

Post by Coops »

Hi guys,
as the new engine build is starting to get underway,
im turning my attention to the clutch while its all apart,
will a 10.5 clutch fit inside the 2wd bellhousing???
im currently running the baby 9.5 clutch and thinking about going to the bigger one, I also know that the flywheel will need redrilling to suit the larger cover plate,

Indeed Mcleod. By Memory I think I mailed you the specs some time ago.
Its the Street strip Sinter / Organic one, but Real Steel renamed it now.

Suitable used flywheel supplied by Real Steel as mine was cracked. Think it was a stock SD1. We had it re-drilled for new studs, refaced, rebalanced.

Still holding strong and its easy on the foot. Have to say never did a 5000rpm clutch dump with it.

Did run it inn, as recommended by Real Steel meaning just normal operation the first lots of miles before racing it, ( bed in the friction plate like you have to do with new brake pads otherwise it will glaze right on ).

I also run a 10.5" (2400lb) Mcleod Clutch that Real Steel sell for the Rover V8.
I my case I also use the steel flywheel they sell.
The cover plate bolt pattern is 6 bolt Chevy, so if you want a slight stronger clutch you could use the Chevy 2700lb version although it will be a heavier pedal.

The RV8 McLeod clutches sold by Real Steel are suitable for flywheels that are no thicker than the SD1 or earlier type. The later 3.9 flywheels are slightly thicker and if used may give release bearing clearance problems in an LT77 bellhousing. These clutches have no location dowels and require the flywheel to be drilled and tapped for the 6 special bolts.

Real Steel used to sell a McLeod double clutch with a paddle system,it came with its own steel flywheel, good for over 500bhp,this is what I have, but they haven't sold it for years !
Not sure if it's not available straight from McLeod

Tony,
I've not had it on a rolling road so I'd be guessing, but, it's got to be easily over 400 bhp. It didn't slip or break but I have now put a 2700 lb cover in just to give a bit more capacity. I use a plate with an Organic lining one side and Kevlar the other.

Cheers
