Mix and match two gearboxes

Post by aspira »

Guys,

I have two gearboxes; a very solid 52A - out of a LandRover and a very tired G19A with a very wobbly driveshaft.

The box will end up in my MGB V8 conversion so I can't just use the 52A because the ratio's won't be any good and I don't want to stick the knackered but ideal 19A in for obvious reasons.

Can I take components out of the 52A and refurbish the G19A or is it better just to find a new half decent box to start off with, sell the 52A and scrap the G19A?

Any help much appreciated

Much better to get the box you need reconditioned properly, trying to mix and match bits from multiple boxes nearly always ens up with a very noisy and unreliable unit.

+1 to that.

Had a P6 3500S bought with a so called re-con box which was noisy.
On stripping it nothing appeared worn.

Ended up replacing all the wearing internals with new genuine parts.

That worked. But cost.
