rv8 hilux

Post by jim mac »

Hi guys. I have a hilux surf and a rover v8. I guess you can see where im going with this one. The rv8 has been fully rebuilt and ready for its new home. My only problem is i cant find any info about the gearbox. I want to keep the stock 5 speed manual box. Did you use a adaptor plate or special bellhousing. If any of you good chaps have done this swap how did you go about it. Any advice would be great

Hi
I have not done this engine swap but from memory of a couple of people on here who have there is an adaptor kit for Rv8 to hilux box, but it is made In either Australia or New Zealand where it is/was quite a common transplant. I think it would be a lot cheaper to make one yourself, the flywheel mounting to the rover crank may be a bit complicated but the worst case would be getting a new one made with Toyota ring-gear and pressure plate drilling and rover bolt pattern for the crank bolt holes.
best regards
Mike

Dellow, Castlemaine Rod Shop etc, and no doubt there are HiLux specialists who offer kits.

There are also adapter bell-housings available in South Africa.

The company in South Africa is Gilo Engineering, they do a bell housing and flywheel to Toyota gearbox (the Cressida W57...)
http://www.giloeng.com/

I had a quote last year to fit a W57 gearbox to my RV8 race car as that gearbox is 13kg lighter than the LT77, have not gone that route as yet

Maybe you can import a kit from them, they quoted me just under ZAR 5k so in British currency converted it would be around GBP280 excl importing
