Clutch dowel pins

Hi All, I pose this question? Working on the theory that everyone has indicators fitted to their cars but some folk never use them.
Do I really need to fit the clutch to flywheel dowels when I have six bolts securing it anyway.
I ask because my flywheel has dowel holes thinner than my 8mm dowels that do fit the holes made for them on the clutch.
I know the clutch will still need centralising anyway.
