TVR Chimaera /RV8 Clutch Cover Bolt Torque Settings

Post by v8250 »

Gents, I'm needing some clarity here. I'm needing to know the true torque setting for the 6no clutch cover plate 5/16" set screws for the Rover/TVR/RV8 3.9/4.0ltr. Clutch is std TVR 9.5".

So far I've been advised anything between 20-35 ft/lbs...and that's one big difference for a 5/16" [x7/8"] high tensile screw. My BS tables state 18-22ft/lbs.

I'm inclined to go with 20ft/lbs unless one of you knows otherwise. Another option would be to use 12.9grade cap head bolts.

Any/all help greatly received. Thank you, Andrew

thanks dave, that's my feel too. but, the tvr chimaera manuals + steve heath books state 35 ft/lbs and i'm confused. cranked up cover bolts yesterday to spec'd 35ft/lbs and had a bolt head snap. shocked my rural neighbours as cursed like a drunken cleric. clutch now removed...t'row drill out remainder of thread from flywheel. tuesday order higher grade set screws from real steel.

any other folk with recommendations for this?
