I noticed how the ball end starts to dig its way through the arm, the blind hole drilled in the end of the ball is the cause of this. I filled mine up with weld then used a bench grinder to reform the shape of the ball. It then needs to finished off with wet and dry and polish. The only worry I had was that the heat from the weld would change the properties of the metal,it could then end up bending or snapping where it 'necks' down just under the ball end.

I've seen heavy duty arms but all they are is a normal arm with a lump of steel plate welded to the back of the arm so it takes longer before the ball wears through the metal.
