It's not a radiator cap on the SD1 it's a bung which is used as a filling aid.

Hi Markus,

The white block behind my coil is the ballast resistor fitted as per the instructions supplied with it.

That's how I set mine. My adjuster thread is M8 X 1.25.
1.25mm = 0.049" so half a turn is 0.0245".

As long as you use dissimilar metals I don't think it really matters. Personally, for the amount of time & effort involved trying to find an alternative I'd just pull the head off & inspect it properly before you install the engine.
