Re: Forged pistons and rods
I'd say just detonation. Lean melting I'd usually more associate the sides of the piston melted too. But again, under what circumstances did it happen ? normal on load ? low rpm ? high rpm ? or on a rev limiter ? The top pic he shared looked rather melted at the side to me? Fuel system/lean AFR? ma...

Re: Forged pistons and rods
What's your power goal? My supercharged (centrifugal) 4.6 is using standard bottom end and all seems well. Running standard compression ratio for a 4.6 - with a light skim of the block and heads. I did biuret the heads and calculate it but i've long since forgotten the exact number! - It was more th...

Re: Rover V8 cooling question.
Yes it has a pressure relief so no need to add one.
An alternative cap without level sensor NTC7161 shows a 15psi relief value.

Re: Brake up-grade options
Stay away from any pads saying they are fast road or race branded unless you are actual racing the thing - just can't get the heat into them for them to work effectively on the road in a light weight Rush. Problem is, this is not always true. One of the best cold bite pads I've used was the Carbon ...

Re: Brake up-grade options
Hello – New DAX Rush owner here. I’m already thinking about upgrading the front single pot brake calipers to four pot calipers, but I need to know what vehicle the steering knuckles were sourced from. I’ve taken some photographs, here> https://1drv.ms/u/s!AsRQ3YcdckUvhFvqGW2LK0DXPXnK?e=yTdkg8 https...

Re: Water flow around cylinders and heads.
This is really helpful Gents, I think it's answered a question for me... I've got a Rover V8 from an SD1, 3.5l carb-fed in a 7-type kit car. It has an Offenhauser dual port inlet manifold, which has coolant connections front and rear. I didn't build this car. The rear connection goes off to the hea...

Re: RV8 rocker shaft condition
Personally I would get some new rockers and shafts.
Double check your clearances on the new ones though - as my first set were terrible - worse than the worn genuine ones.

Re: Sleeving down a 3.9 to 3.5?
That is very, very neat. Thank you for sharing! I think the best course of action for me is to pick up a scrap chassis (I only need the seatbox crossmember - steering relay crossmember section) and to mock up the various drivetrain options using the bare V8 block, the timing covers and an empty R38...

Are you sure you have an SD1 engine? I thought these were 9 or 10:1.
I thought the 8:1 were reserved for the Landrovers?

Re: Drivers seat removal
If the holes aren't perfectly lined up - it may have been bolted up with some help from gravity!
If the nuts/bolts are out - I would try a bit more force.

Re: Rover v8 sumps.
I have a Rover 4.2 engine fitted in my Triumph Stag with an SD1 sump. I have never managed to get the sump to seal correctly, there has always been a drip from at least one of the bolts. The sump mating flange was checked for flatness before fitting and I used a thick gasket. Have seen, on EBay, th...
