Re: T56 to RV8 conversion.

Yes, Northweald is not the best surface to launch from. Yesterday I sorted out the gearbox support. I used a sierra IMG_4638.JPG 4x4 steel mount and spaced it down from the standard floor floor slots with aluminium blocks. I made new inserts with longer bolts to slot into the rearmost factory floor ...

Re: T56 to RV8 conversion.

Because the rack moves down with the cross member there will be no effective change to steering geometry as it will be no different to riding lower due to a full tank and 5 passengers. Never been on a dyno but fully loaded on road tyres it did high 12's at Northweald. The car was featured in Street ...

Re: T56 to RV8 conversion.

Our car is fully fitted out with heater and stereo /screen etc in the tunnel area so too much bashing was not an option. Just out of interest, how much space is there between the factory tunnel and the heater? As far as the TCA's are concerned, dropping the inner point causes a minimal change in the...

Re: T56 to RV8 conversion.

The Range Rover bell housing I used is quite bulky compared to others I could have used (lesson learnt) so to get more tunnel clearance I spaced the cross member down complete with engine mounts. I was also interested in getting a better prop angle and this helped by effectively reducing the tilt of...

Re: T56 to RV8 conversion.

The determination comes from the fact that the car currently has a cossie T5 fitted with a 0.6 5th gear and this give effortless economic 70mph cruising at only 1800 RPM. However, this results in a big gap between 4th and 5th. The T56 will fill the gap but keep 6th approximately the same as the old ...

Re: T56 to RV8 conversion.

Now that the summer outings are finished, the Sierra is off the road and ready for a shoehorning exercise to get the T56 into place. Initial trial installation showed that the tunnel will need minor bashing and the front cross member will need spacing down 12mm and a slightly shorter prop shaft with...

Re: Defurring the Cooling System

Not to throw a spanner in the works!!! but just noticed in the second photo your outlet is at the top of the rad. I though the outlet needed to be at the bottom where its cooler? Taking the outlet from the top will be hotter coolant than the bottom as heat rises. Tom. Your point would be fully vali...

Re: Sd1 timing cover on late 3.9 serpintine engine

Yes, provided you use a sump and oil pickup from a 3.9 or sd1 engine then it will work. The sump on later 4.6/4.0 crossbolted engines are different at the front end (an extra bolt) and have a different oil pick up arrangement.

Re: ford cosworth T5 - 5th gear problem

Sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you were referring to the plastic selector bits that are inside the actual gearbox on the selector forks.

Re: ford cosworth T5 - 5th gear problem

The top plate cannot be removed until the rear housing is removed which would mean gearbox removal from the car. Also the plastic bits on the selectors are not involved in the 5th gear selector rod shifting/movement.

Re: ford cosworth T5 - 5th gear problem

The 5th Gear has a separate selector rail (which also selects reverse). This rail slides back and forth in pockets in the front and rear of the gearbox casing and any burrs on the rail can make the movement stiff. Once the oil gets about it should improve if that is the problem. Or it may be that th...

Re: Rover V8 sump sealing.

When using a gasket on a rover sump I pre glue the gasket to just the sump flange with evostick or similar and this prevents the gasket wandering as the bolts are done up. Using gasket cement on both sides of the gasket is not a good idea as this tends to lubricate the gasket and allows the gasket t...

Re: lack of oil in rocker covers

Get a short length of garden hose ( 3 feet ) and put one end to your ear and the other to all the exhaust joints and you will hear any leaks. Just like a stethoscope.

Re: Rover 4.6 main bearing caps, very tight?

When the caps are fully in place you should be able to slide a 2-4 thou feeler gauge between the cap and the block just in the zone where the cross bolts go though without the cross bolt in place. This is ONLY on the starter side of the engine. On the other side of the engine there should be no gap ...
