When I built my 4.6 from a 4.0 block - I used a 4.6 crank, 4.6 conrods, 4.6 gudgeons (the are thicker walled than the 4.0 gudgeons) and used low comp 4.0 pistons - this gives a compression ratio of just under 10:1 - I see you calculated it as just over, I calculated it as just under - in both cases ...

Thanks for all those comments - no oil gauge at the moment just the light so not sure of actual pressure. This a project that is slowly coming together so a lot of things are jury rigged or not installed just yet. Progress has stalled due to this problem and a couple of other things that have croppe...

But before I did anything like this I would put another 1000 km on the engine and have done an oil change to normal oil to clear out assembly and running in oil. I have the drivers side connected to the inlet manifold but not the passenger side which is just open to atmosphere (need to fix that before too long). Just some additional information. Changed the spark plugs today - all show soot from running rich - the ignition at the moment is EDIS 8 running on default mode so only 10 degrees BTDC is available and I live at the top of a long hill so without ignition advance going up the hill under a bit of load...

We had and still have the usual hype of water in the fuel, rotting old rubber etc. The government came out and said all vehicles sold since 1986 were ok to use E10. Of course vac advance or retard must not be all that relevant to a dizzy system as the mechanical system is because some cars do not even have vacuum advance or retard. My 24v 3.5 RV8 in my 101 does not have vac advance and neither does my Haflinger - neither has it so must not be all that importan...

Some cars will run vac all the time to the dizzy ( when available ), others will run a spark port which only offers vac at part throttle, but not at it idle. The best manifolds for a RV8 are the standard D1 3.9 headers - better than anything aftermarket has to offer and a lot cheaper. The restriction on the D1 was the system back from the manifolds - change this to match at you have a great system.

Why are you using 10w60? are you in a hot part of the world? standard oil for UK is 10w40 for the crank oil pump V8. Exactly why use that oil - is too thick and may be the cause of your valve noise.
