I have my original 3.5 damper along with the flexplate/start ring gear on my 4.6 crankshaft and the engine is as smooth as soft chocolate. In fact it is noticably smoother than the original engine. No vibration at all. Ron. The 1st order (balance) issue is mainly a concern on 4WD installations and ...

"How do they deal with balance of the rear half of the engine?" By the fact that every V8 engine that came off the end of the production line was put onto a whopping great Schenck balance machine and balanced as a full assembly. Weights (threaded rod lengths) are crimped into the front pulley ring l...

'Hp was reduced in 1975, reaching a low of 165 hp'

Chevy must have tried just as hard. 350 cubes @ 28HP/L

It's not about HP in some applications.

Is HRC 2484 the bare casting number from which a number of different camshafts are machined ? I believe OE Rover cams are identified by coloured paint bands.

" early P5Bs had engine numbers near the bell housing "

Not restricted to early P5s - as far as I remember it was in this position certainly into the late 60's. Position is on the block behind the LH head adjacent to the bellhousing 'ear'.

" Look at the gaskets and you may find that the fire ring around each bore hole is slightly wider on one side. Fit this side onto the block " I don't have the answer or am saying Perry is wrong but why? My logic would say that if there is a difference in fire ring width, then I would fit the wide si...

There are a couple of Jag ratios (year dependant) around 3.1 (3.07/3.05 for instance). You'll have to look fairly hard to find a PL in those ratios though because PL was only standard fit in V12s cars (which were all 2.88 ) and XJS (either 2.88 or 3.54). So you're looking for an 'option' fit unit. T...

Apart from the fact that a Defender of Disco box is 4 wheel drive you mean . . . . Seriously, the rear of a LR box has an adaptor and output shaft designed to mate to a transfer box. You can strip and re-build one as a 2WD spec (that's what mine is) but you need a number of bits and castings - they'...

No it won't. The older pressure plate has flat release fingers wand a radius on the face of the bearing. The later clutch cover has a radius on the end of the fingers and a flat release bearing. Two flat faces together won't work, the fingers need to 'roll' across the bearing as it operates. You can...

Fork is correct, bearing is correct - you are missing the big cast iron bearing carrier (or later plastic version of it). The bearing presses onto the nose of the carrier. Check the picture here:- http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID008899 In fact compare the two clutch kit pictures in the listi...

"Doesn't it depend on the piston top, valve diameter and lift and timing?"

Fixed it for you - clash is not normally particularly near tdc. Even standard pistons need cut outs with some cams - the ones for the 248M in my motor take a big chunk out of the bowl edge for both inlet and exhaust.

I assume from your user name that it's for an RV8 installation? f the box is from a Range Rover then it already has a very deep pan compared to a car sourced 727, and is an alumium casting compared to a std tin pan. It also has the bottom face angled as it installs at a (rotated) angle in a RR. I'm ...
