Nice piece of fabrication work, although my view is that, with no testing, in the worst case it might be as likely to cause oil starvation as it is to stop it. You realise, of course, that your standard sump is a Range Rover/Discovery item which is designed to work at a tilt angle of 45 degrees in a...

No, as far as I know it was NAS only. I've seen a number of heads with blanking plugs that are similar to those big pipe fittings but I can't find a part number for them just at the moment.

Pretty sure those early plugs fit though.

These are the correct part that fits those tapped holes : http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php?xProd=134594 However they obviously have a hole through them so would need a blob of weld to 'seal' (I'd also cut of the top bit first - they are quite large). Threaded portion and seat that seals in head...

Those holes (on late engines), as already stated, are for ExhastGasRecirculation - that's what yours is - 2 off per head. Part load injection of already burnt mixture into the intake system for emissions purposes. Some earlier heads had one hole per port and were for pulse air injection - deliberate...

I'm with Boosted, even if JE confirms it might be one of his engines, the only certain way of confirming whats inside and is what the seller says it is is to at least partially strip it. Who's to say it hasn't been re-build with other parts since JE built it in any case.

Well I don't know about P6 specifically but one of the major advantages of the later belt drive engines is that, despite the fact that the crank nose is longer, they are actually shorter overall from front face of block to forward most part of the belt/ancillary drives than the old V belt SD1/RR typ...

"Could the discovery setup easily be converted to a v belt arrangement or not? " Sounds like you do have an interim engine, lucky you. You can't convert it to v belt, the water pump on an interim engine runs off the back of the belt 'in reverse' compared to a v belt system - you can't get it to do t...

"I've now brought a 3.9 Discovery (interim) engine that I intend to fit to the P6 auto box" If you truly have a 3.9 INTERIM engine then your P6 front cover won't fit. The interim engines have the much better crank nose driven pump but retain the distributor ignition. You would be ill advised to try ...

Any 75-90 LS specific oil is OK. I have used

for many years.

Plenty of other alternatives available - Motul, Redline, Millers, Lucas Oil etc.

"The 380 in the stock R380 is 380 ftlb" Unfortunately not - the R380 is rated at 380Nm (280ftlbs) - but it is rated at that for 4WD applications which don't (wheel spin) torque limit in low gears. Traction limit is hugely important in gearbox load capacity (as is vehicle inertia). Many current high ...

I agree with Dave here - the Rover sender is a two wire Hall effect. You need 12V supply and ground reference. I use on (admittedly with a smiths guage) and it works perfectly when wired correctly. The speedo is only counting pulses, so the fact you are using autometer shouldn't make any difference ...

I don't think the auto is 'spaced back'. The T/C housing is pretty much full of torque converter and couldn't be much shorter, a ZF auto main box is the same length wherever it's sourced from, and the t/box is identical between auto and manual. The only real 'spare space' is the ZF main gearbox to t...

But I think the manuals from a V8 are the same length as the autos - they deliberately have a very long bell housing to make them the same. Handbrake drum ends up in the same place whether you use an auto or manual if you source them from a Range Rover or Discovery - unless you use your original box...
