Hi I am not sure of the maths being used here but 14 psi boost on an 11.5:1 cr is not an equivalent CR of 22.something :1 but closer to an equivalent 13.5:1 static CR. The pressure ratio of 14 psi boost is 1.95:1 and you add this to the compression ratio of the engine. This is still far to high, you...

Hi
Is there one with straighter runners? They seem unusually twisty, especially the one bottom left. Wouldn't a 4 barrel open plenum manifold with a 4 barrel throttle plate and the runners tapped for the injectors not give you a neater solution? Or are you after a "factory" look?

Hi Surely there would have been some oil going round from the pressure relief/regulating valve in the pump as it dumps straight into the oil gallery? I doubt it will have done it any good but I think there is a fair chance the bottom end will have survived. I doubt it has done the cam or tappet bedd...

Hi From memory small valve P6 based low compression engines with low lift cams like the stage 1 V8, 101FC and MGBV8 were clearance engines provided the lifters did not pump up with over revving, which they generally didn't if they cam had jumped a tooth or two. However pretty everything else was an ...

Hi Personally I would look on ebay for a low mileage second hand 3.9 replacement, make sure you hear/see it running before you buy it but there are a couple on for about £650 and I think this will be the cheapest/quickest option. Replacing timing gear on an old worn out 3.5 just seems a way of throw...

Hi what spec are you wanting to build this engine to? if it is pretty much stock then I would look at buying a complete replacement engine from the likes of Real steel. However a 383 motor or a desire for a roller cam engine then a rebuild of the existing unit is worth considering. If we can agree a...

Hi
have good look at the tappet, if it has collapsed it can allow the push rod to drop out of contact with the rocker and jam in the valve train bending the rod, if this is ok then be brave and pull the head off, piston to valve contact is a likely cause.
best of luck

Hi One thought, spending all this dosh on an all forged extra stretched rover why are you not fitting a roller cam? Seems a little odd to me when you will need all the cam "under the curve area" you can get?? and you probably will want to try two or three cams before you find the right one and a rol...

Hi how much rust? if it is just surface rust then I would rub it off with a pan scrub and WD40. I would use cam and lifters from the same manufacturer as they (in theory) will use the same surface treatment on both, that is not guaranteed when mixing manufacturers. If one of the lobes eats itself on...

Hi or for a little less than the 4.6 you could have one of these crate engines ie you just connect the power and exhaust system. . . http://www.roadcraftuk.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=585 Oh and that is 430 real horsepower not the little ones used to rate rover engines. best reg...

Hello welcome good place to start, are you 100% sure it is a tappet? a leaky exhaust gasket can sound very metallic and is easily disturbed during a service, worth a check before you go delving into the internals. If the exhaust gaskets are OK then presumably the oil was changed, the 4.6 with the be...

I think John is referring to the new 4 valve/cylinder post 2001 duramax engines not the old things that were imported over the last 25 years as replacements for the rover V8 engines, that did exceed the rating of the standard front axel.
