Inside was easier because there were less fiddly buts to figure out. TCT blade in a grinder ? lol If the fins are just straight, some sort of mill could machine them out ? Given the choice I would use epoxy paint.

I've used plenty of this on my Sierra and over painted it with whatever colour needed

Just a thought on the misfire, did you use shielded cable for the crank position sensor ?

The CPS needs a shielded cable, with the shielding earthed only at one end from what I've read on the subject.
