The method I use is to jack the front up as high as I can with a trolley jack. Then fill the system through the radiator filler hole to the top, bleed the air out by squeezing the top hose & topping up until no more air comes out then replace the radiator plug. I've found gripping the neck in a vice & turning the cover works. If you're still struggling try tightening it slightly first before undoing it as this will help break the crud seal. Same here. I used Indian Head shellac on copper m/cycle head gaskets in the 70s & 80s after being advised by an old mechanic. I used the same gasket for years on that Triumph & that engine went through a few rebuilds & I was using 11-1 pistons.
