Hi chaps Errrr, no not really??? LOL! But I have seen a few narrow band gauges (half decent ones) for about £50 (you can get cheaper but would you?) and just thought it would be a good way of dialing in a few adjustments on both petrol and LPG to allow for the cam change/higher C/R, and porte...

AIR / FUEL RATIO GAUGES

Hi guys Can any one tell me if the lambda sensors fitted to RV8 'hot wire' type engine exhuasts are narrow band or wide band OR am I being dumb and they have wires for both? LOL! The reasion is I want to fit an air fuel ratio gauge when my new engine goes in, to help me set the new mods up. By the w...

Hi I would agree with mike on this one, I had a very high spec group 'a' ford pinto decide to 'eject' its fly wheel at about 8,000 rpm in a old RS2000. luckily for me it missed my feet but wrote the car off as it exited the roof!!!!!! The next Pinto had a steel flywheel AND 3 extra dowls plus some v...

Hi guys I know this isnt quite V8, but I think there may be some parralels here. I used to build/run some very highly tuned Harley Davidson big twins. They were specified a 20/50, but due to VERY HIGH oil temps and some extreem cam profiles/loadings over the years we tried many types/grades of oil, ...

Hi again Mike! Thats an odd name for it LOL, but was exactly what I had in mind for the headwork! As far as cam choise goes I'm on a learning curve here. Built a fair few very good 4cyl engines with 300-320deg duration cams with high ratio roller rockers giving some very big lifts ( a peaky but stre...

Hi Mike Well, thats intresting, I did look at the 'stump puller' specs, but was worried about losing too much bottom end. Maybe the stump puller and the rhoads lifters might be a good combo? on the 4.2 or if I go back to 3.9 (depending on costs and the trouble factor lol) the cyclone and rhoads lift...

Just a quick question Ive just been looking on the realsteel site for the aforementioned pistons and spotted this cam: Viper Cyclone Hydraulic Camshaft anyone used this cam? Not sure if its going to be too much for my puposes or not, IF it doesnt rob too much power below 2000rpm sounds ideal to incr...

Once again, thanks guys! This is starting to sound do-able, at the end of the day I'm trying to up tourqe in the lower-mid range and optimise the motor for LPG and IF possible any small gains in top end power would be nice too! So it goes to reasion that a higher comp ratio will help with the LPG. T...

Thanks for the info guys!
Any idea how much has to come off the 3.9 pistons (I'm assuming appox 50% of the stroke increase) I will take a look at the costs and then the cost of a good used 4.6 (assuming I can find one!)

Hi devonman and thanks for that! Upping the capacity to 4.2 should be a good move! I need to raise the Compression ratio as I'm mostly running LPG, so piston choice will be critical as I beleive there is little meat that can be taken from the heads (not to mention the inlet manifold fit lol). Does a...

Hi

I take it the 4.2 crank is longer stroke than the 3.9 with diffrent pistons/rods? An increase to 4.2 would seem worthwhile IF I can source secondhand parts

Engine build advice

Hi everyone First post, so here goes! I'm just about to start a re-build on a spare engine for my 3.9 discovery 1994. I have a fair bit of exsperiance on building/tuning a number of engines, BL A series, Ford Pinto/Crossflow/essex V6 and others from mild to quite wild, but this is my first RV8 build...
