Ceramic coated exhaust
Because of under bonnet heat problems I have had to wrap my manifolds. Now, the car will be stripped down over the next few months and resprayed/rebuilt. I was considering coating the manifolds with ceramic because it looks nicer, is easier to maintain and doesn't rot the manis. How much of the exha...

They sat one of these on my engine for some photos when I was down there last year - haven't seen it in their web site though. They were trying to sell it to me as an LPG adapter which supposedly worked a lot better than some of the restrictive 'indside the air box' systems. They were telling me tha...

PCV valves
I am considering fitting one of these to my Rover V8.
I here they clear out moisture which as a seldom used car, would be of benefit to my engine. I know where to get one, how to pipe it up etc, but will it actually do my engine any good?

I lifted the top of the carb and found both float chambers at the correct level (What I assume to be the correct level). I took the feed pipe off and put it into a 5L bottle, then ran the pump for 1 minute. 2040cc of fuel - so divided by 4.7 I should have enough for 434bhp - plenty methinks. As ther...

Been on the 86 68/57 for a while now and apart from one day when the A/F needle sat against the stop on 16, it’s been running perfectly. Out in the Peak District yesterday, didn't miss a beat. Tick over at 13-14 and cruising at 14 or so. Plenty of power, and very tractable. So why when I start it to...

At the end of the day EFI (or Gay-FI as its known on the Cob forum) will out perform a 4 block carb but I still like my carb, I like the fact that its a bit rough and ready. My first experience of EFI was on old Montego Mayfair I bought a long long time ago. Up until then I used to fix my ow...

I've been meaning to do some experiments with the two carbs that I've got in my possession. (An Eddy 500 and an Eddy 600) I finially got round to doing it today. The main body appears to be the same for both carbs, the extra flow of the 600 comes from the fact that the primary boosters are smaller ...

I'll bow to your superior knowledge on this Pete as I am just a novice, but I have the 86 jets and 68/57 rods and my 4L stage one engine is working well with this set up. It's 12.6% LTS in cruise and 11.6% LTS in power. A/F is around 14.5 to 15 in cruise at 2-3,000rpm, and 13 or so when I accelerate...

83 63/47 set up will give you 8% leaner than stock on cruise and almost stock settings on power - far too rich for a standard 3.5v8alex wrote:Bugger - I don't have 86 jets.
So for now, I'll do a rod change to 63-47 and see how that goes with the 83 jets.
Weather permitting, I'll update tomorrow...

The idle jets appear clean (the carb is brand new out of box), but I have checked anyway. Also, no whistling that I can detect. Because I didn't write it down, I used a process of elimination from my carb calibration kit and have fitted the following rods and primary jets: Rods: (.067" x .055") #14...
