There is always Rimmer Bros. Or do what I did and track down some steel rockers (I think they originate from a Volvo engine?) and buy a couple of new shafts. The steel rockers last well and mine fitted perfectly.

I remember at one of the shows a few years ago they drained the oil and water from a "breaker" and started it up and ran it to destruction. It takes ages, a good 10minutes before the engine seized and bits of metal shot out of the exhaust! Probably can't do it no due to H&S!

It has an idiot proof "top" stamped into it :-) I was surprised they went to the effort with the ball. I presume it's to only allow air through it and not water during the warm up period when the 'stat is closed? I would have thought the water pressure would keep it closed when the water pump was ru...

thermostat

Just bought a genuine Rover thermostat. Quality is as you would expect superb bit it also has a little hole and plunger arrangement I've not seen before. I also treated her to a genuine gasket, they may be a quid more but they are metal and foam...it looks like genuine parts are worth the extra here...

I've tried circuit board cleaner , contact cleaner and flux and soldering iron. I wish we could fine one had a right pain of a job rewiring the rear lights of my wife's car, ended up scraping to get a solder joint as the wire just disappeared into the car!

I've experienced this quite a lot on a number of cars (even 2002 BMWs!) it can creep many inches into the loom, very hard to scrape off, but impossible to solder to unless you do. Flux / cleaners doesn't shift it either. I cut it out if I can, otherwise scrape it with a blade and tin the wires! I th...

Sweatshirt here as well. Very high quality and it fits perfectly (my shape is not ideal!). It's also very warm and keeps out the wind!

Thanks for you hard work.

You can definitely put more torque through a torq! I've had a few nightmares with both female and male torq bolts. The rear diaphragm on a BMW V8 is case in point, you can 'just' get a torx bit into them but if you are not straight you strip out the bolt and it's a manifold off job! The larger ones ...

I remember there was one which was a pain to get out, even on the stand, wouldn't like to try on a engine in the car! You can also get Allen key head ones which I remember thinking might be an easier option. eBay sell both in stainless! My originals were quite corroded as well.

I was worried but as others said a standard socket fits them OK! I replaced with standard hex heads just in case. I hate reusing those types of bolt head!

My apologies, so often on the BMW forums people just shove the 10quid hid bulbs in (especially in non projector units) and blind everyone! My pet hate :-) The SD1 impresses me more and more, self levelling suspension :-) I hope the MOT will catch up soon, light level isn't a factor, my poor old TR7 ...

I did this on a P6 with aftermarket Cibie units and H4 twin filament halogens. Could switch them so all 8 were on. Didn't have any problems - but they were steel and glass units. However, I've got HIDs in the SD1 - they are just wonderful. OMG don't get me started with HIDs in cars with no wash / c...
