Re: Cable Identification- help!
Rover never made an automatic transmission - you could have either a Borg Warner (BW35 or 65?), or maybe a GM180. I could be wrong about the GM box... They are 3 speed. As was the Chrysler Torqueflite which was fitted to Range Rovers early on. Or a ZF4HP22 which is 4 speed but if you have it in 2WD ...

Re: Speedo Drive Location- Rover V8
Any idea what the transmission is from?
Generally, the speedo outputs come from just in front of the output flange, pointing towards the left hand side of the vehicle (facing forward).
The mechanical ones have a place to put a wire, and the electronic ones have a lucar terminal.

Excellent. I knew he'd died, but didn't know the circumstances. It's great that his website (legacy) will live on.

Yeah, I'd go along with the TVR theory. I guess 37A is the crate engine as sold to a few small car builders.

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
I would think there is another number at the start if you look closely, and that it will be either 1 or 2.

The compression ratio should be stamped in that area as well.

Re: 2wd R380 V8 clutch pushrod length
There are a few different lengths - I googled a little as my pushrod length was not quite right for my engine / bellhousing / transmission combination. The biting point was on the floor. So I removed the slave cylinder and measured the distance of pushrod between pivot arm and mounting face for slav...

Re: LT77/R380 interchangeability..
I would think it highly unlikely TBH.
5th gear is different, and that's the bit at the rear of the gearbox.
Might be worth studying a few photos on eBay to see if there are some obvious differences.

Re: Some ZF 4HP22 questions...
Yes, the bellhousing for a 4HP22 will fit the 4HP24. I believe the only physical difference on the outside is a thicker pump plate on the 4HP24, which makes the whole unit a shade longer. But everything else fits just fine. Of course you'll need a controller for the 4HP24, although it might be possi...

Re: Oil Warning light on !
Good news.
I had exactly the same thing happen to me, but I didn't realise there was no oil pressure, and it trashed the engine!!

Re: Oil Warning light on !
I would remove the distributor and a rocker cover. I would then spin the oil pump with an electric drill. If the drill seems to be 'working', i.e. not just spinning freely, and oil dribbles out of the rockers, then you just have a problem with the oil sensor (so probably the pressure switch). If it ...
