Well I guess an 11 inch fan gives you 20% more coverage over a 10 inch (all else being equal) so it's a start. But fan speed and blade shape have an effect. Don't forget a fan shifting considerably more air will draw more leccy too.

Well, got it warmed up tonight. It's still a bit rough on the way up to temp though. However to get a decent idle I had to set it at 85 steps     for 71 C and above. Decent idle was in the 900's any less than that and everything else was jumping around all over the place ...

Timing light bought, timing checked - bang on at idle :) But dam, getting this idle valve setting right is a real pain in the ass. I don't have much time to change the setting before it moves off up the temp scale. I'm sure it would be easier if I had a straight forward bypass screw on the throttle!...

Well a picture paints a thousand words! Just watched Phils videos and it seems my valve goes in then out when turning ecu on. But he clearly shows it should be out then in. Plus it seems my iac idle steps are arse about tit with more steps at higher temps. But the cranking steps are the right way ro...

Yep, it's one of Phil's. BTW I was wrong, it's a THOR throttle I'm using: http://www.roverviews.co.uk/ekmps/shops/roverviews/images/throttle-body-4.0-4.6-v8-thor-p38-xa-d2-755-p.jpg I've been watching a few of Phil's videos - very useful. I now know I can just test the valve steps by feeling if it b...

Sorry, yes that's what I meant - I think. But I was reading http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/IAC.htm which implies you have to do various checks. The screen shots on http://msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/MS2-Extra_Hardware.htm#stepper contain a couple of extra settings (like cranking position and acceleratio...

Hi Phil, Yes, I'll do some 'first principles' checks at the weekend. I take it you mean just using a strobe to confirm what TunerStudio is telling me? Fortunately the timing marks on the pulley actually do line up with the pointer on the timing cover so it's not too hard to check. First pulley I had...

Idle woes .....
Getting somewhere now with the mapping on my MS. But idle speed is a steady 1100-1200 !!! Even when up to temp. Turns out I have a problem with my nice neat throttle body/IACV setup. I have an ACT carbon plenum with a hotwire IACV and a throttle off a GEMS engine. My car only idles because the IACV ...

It's a 92 block so I think the test is the 'non CAT': CO<=3.5%. HC<=1200ppm. Which I'm hoping to make ok - but never done this before so who knows. The last car I build was all new parts with a CAT. Hooked up the Tuner Studio today - it didn't autotune. Turned out I hadn't set the EGO sensor setting...

Sounds too easy to be true! Phil setup my target AFRs so I'll go with that and see how I get on. I think I've got to do a bit around the warmup enrichment though. Not sure if it was that or the fumes from the internal camcoat curing messing it up a bit on the first few starts. Off to buy it now :) M...
