Camshaft Dimensions

Hi

Has anyone got a 3.5 camshaft they could measure the overall length for me? It looks pretty close as to whether I can get the shaft out without lifting the engine. Don't want to get the timing cover off just to find I've not got the time to swap the cams over.

Any info appreciated Stu

It's in a Pilgrim Sumo. Wasn't thinking about a 4.6 as then I guess I would have to change the box and uprate the brakes as well. If I was going to do that, I think I would sell the car and start again. Just want a little more power, and wondered if anyone had done the 3.5 to 3.9 and noticed nuch o...

Thanks for the reply.
The 3.5 had new rings, main, big end & cam bearings & cam 6000 miles ago. The eddy carb has probably done 5K. The heads were replaced 1000 miles ago. Good point about replacing it with a bad'n. Don't want to end up having to fit liners.

What to do?

Hi all. I'm after some opinions as to which is my best way forward. Currently I have a 3.5 with an Offy manifold and Edddy carb, EFI heads that have had a little porting work on the intake side so the manifold matches the heads, but a standard cam. I'm considering fitting a mild cam (probably someth...

Hi I'm looking at an engine described as a 3.9 EFI. The engine number starts 24d and it has carbs fitted so am a little unsure as to the description, can someone confirm whether that number is for a 3.5, I've looked on the list above, would just like to know if I'm looking at the numbers correctly. ...

Have you checked the exhaust gaskets are on the right way round? Not with you? Do you think it could be leaking exhaust making the noise? I didn't replace the header gasket as its done no mileage and it was OK before. Cheers Martin I got one the wrong way round, it was OK for a while, then started ...

It is a bit of an odd fault. The temp would register 120 degrees before the stat opens, then when it opens the fans wouldn't kick in, the fan sender is in the top hose straight after the stat and set to 90 degrees, and I can't see as there's a 45 degree difference between where the temp sender is an...

The makers supplied me with the ohms values for various temps, and tell me I don't need a voltage regulator. All I did was connect up a variable resistor and meter to see what readings the gauge came up with, so with the correct resistance the gauge is way wrong. I doubt it's a wiring issue as the h...

I understand temps will vary with conditions, but my gauge was going down to 70 and the stat would shut then not open until 120, 74 degree stat. I have owned the car for several years and not had this happen before. It appears that once it reached just over 80, it would almost immediately read over ...

Incase anyone else has a similar problem. I bit the bullet and drilled my manifold as per the Eddy modifications, it did stabilise the temp a bit, but eventually traced the overheating problem to a duff gauge.
Nothing like trying to find a fault that doesn't exist.

Offenhauser Overheating

Hi All I wonder if anyone can shed some light on an overheating problem. It's a 3.5 with an Offenhauser 360 dual port manifold. Car is fine in town and traffic and at lower speeds, but at motorway speeds it sometimes gets very hot before opening the themostat, I don't lose any water and the fans don...
